THE 20V MAX XR BRUSHLESS TEARDOWN
When DeWalt released the XR lineup, they promised revolutionary efficiency. We didn’t believe the marketing hype, so we took it into the lab and pushed it until it smoked.
THE STRESS TEST
We acquired 5 different competitor drills in the same 20V brushless category. The goal? Drive 500 3-inch lag bolts into solid oak without stopping. The XR managed to keep its thermals under 140°F for the first 300 bolts, which is wildly impressive for a consumer-grade form factor.
TORQUE METRICS
Peak torque was advertised at 800 in-lbs. Our dynamometer reads consistently at 785 in-lbs sustained. While slightly below the marketing sheet, it completely shattered the Makita and Milwaukee equivalents in our specific test batch.
Verdict: It’s heavy, it’s loud, and it absolutely refuses to die. Unquestionably worth the premium if you’re a heavy DIYer or professional tradesman.
